Note : (The above-mentioned list outlines Java features which are also known Java Buzzwords).
James Gosling, Patrick Naughton and Mike Sheridan launched the Java language project in June 1991. This team of sun engineers named green Team. Java was initially designed for small embedded system in electronic appliances. The first name was given to this language by James Gosling was GreenTalk, the file extension was .gt. After GreenTalk it was named Oak. Oak is a symbol for strength and chosen by countries like the USA, France, Germany etc as a national tree. Oak was renamed in 1995 to java because it was already a trademark by Oak Technologies.
Why Java language is named Java?
The team of java developers suggested many names for this language in which Jolt, Dynamic, revolutionary, Silk, DNA etc. The team desired to give a name to the language which reflects the nature of the technology. According to James Gosling, “Java was one of the top choices along with Silk“. Since Java was so unique, most of the team members preferred Java than other names. Java is an island of Indonesia where the first coffee was produced. Java name was chosen by James Gosling while having coffee near his office.
